Barça's presidential election narrows down to only five candidates, two drop out

The socios and fans of Barcelona already know the line-up of official candidates for the club's presidency, after a day of presenting signatures to stay in the race.

Josep Maria Bartomeu, Joan Laporta, Toni Freixa, Agusti Benedito and Joan Bastiste are officially running for the Barça presidency, after reaching or surpassing the 2534 necessary signatures required to keep their election race alive.

Jordi Majo and Jordi Farre drop out, after failing to make the cut. Both were unable to present the necessary signatures, while Seguiment FCB waiting until the last possible moment to announce that they had reached the required amount. The original idea of Seguiment is to put forth their ideas, take part in debates and pertinent meetings with the other candidates before resigning from having any type of presidential aspiration.

The collection of the signatures means that the election process has taken another step towards the final sprint. The calendar will step up a notch as of next week. Between Monday 6th and Wednesday 8th there will be an announcement of the candidates, while the election campaign will last between Thursday 9th and Thursday 16th. On Friday 17th there will be a day of reflection, before the big day of voting on saturday 18th.
