Barça's outlay of 51 million is third lowest in last 10 years

FC Barcelona, with 51 million euros spent, were the fourth biggest spenders in Spain this summer after Valencia (142 million), Atletico Madrid (139 million) and Real Madrid (89.5 million). Villarreal (47.2 million) follow Barcelona very closely.

Away from La Liga comparisons, it is the third lowest amount that the Catalan club have spent in the last 10 years.

Only in the 2012-13 season (33 million spent on Alex Song and Jordi Alba) and in the 2006-07 season (31 million spent on Gianluca Zambrotta, Lilian Thuram and Eidur Gudjohnsen) did they spend less.

In the final example, Barça had just won the Champions League under Fran Rijkaard, while in the first example Barça had only won the Copa del Rey during the previous season.

Barça did not spend too much after the double in 2011-12 either, just 60 million on Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez.

The summer after the treble, ahead of the 2009-10 season, saw the club spend 99 million on Dmytro Chygrynskiy, Maxwell and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Last summer, Luis Enrique's first at the club, saw an outlay of 146 millions. Goalkeepers Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo; defenders Thomas Vermaelen and Douglas; midfielder Ivan Rakitic; and forward Luis Suarez all arrived before the transfer ban kicked in.
