Barça's Mascherano almost moved to Roma last summer

Javier Mascherano’s future could be in Italy. As exclusively revealed by SPORT on Wednesday, the Argentine has reached an agreement with Juventus over a three-year deal, although Barcelona do not want to sell.

However, it’s not the first time in the career of ‘El Jefecito’ that he has looked close to Italy.

Last season Mascherano was close to becoming a Roma player, the Serie A side formerly managed by Luis Enrique.

According to former Genova and Roma player Roberto Pruzzo, who was speaking to Radi0 Radio, “Mascherano was about to sign for Roma last year with the same conditions Juve are offering him now. It’s clear he could leave Barça at any moment,” the ex-footballer said.

Meanwhile, he called reports of Dani Alves’ move to Juventus “probable and believable” despite the fact “it’s not common that two players like that become available at the same time.”
