Barça's Luis Suarez reveals what he learned from Luis Enrique
The Uruguayan looked back over the last season with Barcelona
He's also looking ahead to a World Cup clash against Leo Messi
Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has reviewed the last season in an interview with Uruguayan media 'La República'. Suarez spoke about his now former manager Luis Enrique, missing out on La Liga and upcoming games with his national team.
Talking about Luis Enrique, Suarez highlighted how the coach helped him keep calm: "He told me not to waste energy arguing with the officials because it damaged the team and it was beneficial for me to be aware to press and help my team-mates."
Suarez added that "[Luis Enrique] taught me a lot, even if that doesn't seem to be the case. Obviously a lot in football terms, he was also a forward so he knew the movements to make to benefit the team."
In three seasons at the club, the 30-year-old feels he has improved in many aspects, such as "pressing after losing the ball, [Luis Enrique] helped me a lot in that regard. I was a player that lost the ball and gave up, waiting for the next play, but he taught me how to press after losing the ball."
MALAGA LOSS
Barça closed the season with success in the Copa del Rey but they fell short in La Liga. Suarez didn't hide and admitted that "we are aware that we failed at key moments in the season and we have to be self-critical. When you lose points in stadiums where you should be looking to win it hurts and leaves you with the feeling that maybe we lost [La Liga] ourselves."
The Charrúa pointed to the game at La Rosaleda: "I think that from the moment we lost at Malaga we were very self-critical and knew it would be difficult to win the league performing like that. We had to win at the Bernabeu and hope that Madrid slipped up. We know La Liga is a long and we are self-critical."
BATTLE WITH MESSI
Luis Suarez will take on team-mate Lionel Messi in a World Cup qualifier later this year. The Uruguayan said he's happy Messi's ban was lifted, but that he's confident his side will clinch a key win.
"Leo's going to be there but we have to do our own job, which is to try to win and to confirm our place in Russia. We are aware that Argentina have a new manager and will play differently," he said.
"We have quality and I trust that we will continue on the right path, changing the bad run we had in the last few games to qualify."
