Gerard Pique to be banned for between 4 and 12 matches for Super Cup red card

Article 94 of the RFEF's discipline code clearly states: "To insult, offend or show an abusive attitude to the referee or one of his assistants will be sanctioned with a ban of between four and 12 games."

That is what will happen to Gerard Pique on Wednesday when Francesco Rubio, the head of the discipline committee, decides what ban will face the defender for the following phrase aimed at Velasco Carballo's assistant during the Super Cup match against Athletic Club: "Me cago en tu puta madre" ("I s--- on your whore mother"). He denies saying that exact phrase.

So, he could face a ban of up to 12 games in the most extreme case. However, in most cases it is less. In 2013, Sergio Ramos told Ayza Gamez he had "no shame", while Sergio Garcia insulted Del Cerro Grande in 2012 and Diego Ifran called Munuera Montero a "f---ing idiot" last season. In all cases, the players involved were banned for four matches (although Ramos served a fifth game because the insults came after he'd been dismissed for two yellow cards."

One month without Pique

If it's confirmed that Pique will miss four games, he will not be able to play until Barcelona play Celta Vigo in the fifth game of the season. He would miss trips to San Mames and the Vicente Calderon and home games against Malaga and Levante. Without doubt, it would be a big blow to Luis Enrique's defence.
