The Catalan club would make a sizeable investment but know it's a near impossible deal

Verratti wants to play in a more competitive league but PSG do not want to let him leave

Barcelona need to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2017-18 season. And they have to do so with players and names that excited the fans, but above all that fulfill varios needs: that they're international players who come to the club to fit straight into the first team.

The club are aware of the economic limitations they have. They don't have an unlimited budget to throw at a number of players. Despite that, they will do what they can to make an important investment in players who are among the best in the world in their position, as Messi, Suarez and Neymar are.

Barça would like to strengthen the midfield with Marco Verratti, the lungs of Paris Saint-Germain and the Italian national team. He's a player that has been on the agenda of various presidential candidates in recent elections. Despite still not turnin 25 (he will do so in November), he's already a 'veteran' of top level football and the object of the planet's biggest clubs.

Verratti's contract runs until 2021 but he wants to join a club competing for everything

Verratti, who has always declared his admiration for Andres Iniesta, has class, talent and impressive fitness. He's one of PSG's best players, with the French club pulling off a masterstroke to sign him from Pescara for 12 million euros in 2012.

Thanks to his growth as a player and the incessant interest of clubs like Barça, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and England's biggest sides, he has seen his contract regularly improved... on five occasions! The most recent was in February of 2016, when after signing he said: "I love Paris, I love PSG."

Even though is contract ends in 2021, Verratti, according to various Italian media who are close to the player, feels the moment has come to move to a more competitive league.

Barça are willing to make an sizeable investment to land the Italian international

It's also said his dream is to one day play for Barcelona, a team he's always had a special admiration for. He believes he has done all he can do with PSG, that he's hit his ceiling with the Ligue 1 club. He's not been able to go far in the Champions League and this season the title was lost to Monaco.

Barcelona know that Marco Verratti wants to come, but it will not be an easy operation to push through. In fact, it will be the opposite. It will be almost impossible because PSG, owned by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, don't have to sell their stars for any price. Especially not to a direct Champions League rival like Barça. In any case, then, it would have to be the player who forces his exit.
