Bartomeu wants to negotiate the price with Real Sociedad

La Real are standing firm and not offering any discounts

Iñigo Martinez is the centre-back who Barcelona's new coach Ernesto Valverde wants to strengthen his defence for the new season.

Barça have began talks with Real Sociedad already. President Josep Maria Bartomeu has taken charge of negotiations and in his telephone conversation with his counterpart Jokin Aperribay he tried to lower the defender's 32 million euro buyout clause.

Bartomeu's request was met with a firm no, though. Iñigo Martinez will only leave for his buyout clause, if La Real are ready to formally accept that 32 million as a transfer, as opposed to Barça having to deposit the money with the LFP.

In the coming hours there will be more talks in search of a solution. Payment by installments could be one way to break the transfer down, as Real Sociedad did when they sold Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid for 30 million euros.
