Spokesman Josep Vives spoke about the "artificial" #BartomeuDimissio campaign

The club say Bartomeu and his family have received threats on social media

Barcelona, through spokesman Josep Vives, have denounced an online campaign against the club's president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Vives complained that Bartomeu and his family have been the subject of threats in the last few days via social media.

The Barça spokesman said that the "campaign is designed to smear [Bartomeu's] reputation and demands a collective reflection. The club’s inquiries show that it’s a manipulated and artificial campaign and that the majority of the mentions don’t just come from outside of Catalonia and Spain, but also outside of Europe."

Vives added that the campaign, which uses the hashtag #BartomeuDimissio and asks for the president to resign, "has personally affected the club’s president and his family, who have been put under pressure and received threats."
