Barça star Lionel Messi will be fine to play against Celta Vigo despite kidney problem

Lionel Messi will be ready to face Celta Vigo in Barcelona's next La Liga game at Camp Nou on Sunday (20.30h CET).

The Barça forward, who this Tuesday underwent a small procedure to solve a kidney problem, had been having regular checks on his kidneys since the problem appeared before the Club World Cup semi-final against Guanhzhou Evergrande. Messi did not play in that game, but he recovered in time to play the final against River Plate.

Medical services had located some small kidney stones which could have provided Messi with some problems, as they did in December. The decision was then taken, in agreement with the player, to take advantage of this week, given the 7-0 lead Barça have over Valencia, to undergo a small procedure to get rid of them.

Messi entered the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona in perfect conditions and without any problems and everything went to plan. It all points to him being fine to play on Sunday. "If he played in the Club World Cup final in those circumstances, imagine how he will be against Celta, with several days to recover," a source at the club said.
