Barça seal €20million Jeremy Mathieu deal
Barcelona now have a central defender.
Jeremy Mathieu, who has played for Valencia for the last four seasons, is the chosen player to reinforce the defense.
The negotiations, which advanced quickly during recent days, were finalised on Tuesday evening.
Barça eventually ended up paying the €20million fee which Valencia had been asking for since the beginning.
Mathieu, 30, has signed a four-year contract with the Catalan club, with an option of one more year, and there is a €50million release clause in the Frenchman's contract.
He had initially been included in Valencia's 24 man squad who departed for South America on Wednesday, but instead travelled to Barcelona ahead of his presentation on Thursday.
