Barça president Bartomeu: This year the treble is looking good

Speaking at a fan club event, Josep Maria Bartomeu showed plenty of optimism

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has shown himself to be very optimistic with the sporting results achieved by the first team in 2016-17 so far.

“This year the treble's looking good. I see it in the atmosphere in the dressing room,” he said on Friday in a speech at the 50th anniversary of the Gran Penya Barcelonista de Tarragona i Provincia.

Bartomeu, in his speech, made reference to the trophies which were present at the event, from last season’s Liga and Copa del Rey double. “Here we’re missing just one trophy… the Champions League. Barça have a vocation in Europe and we miss it,” he said.

The Blaugrana president didn’t hide his optimism and added that “this year the treble's looking good. I can see it in the atmosphere in the dressing room. I know the players will give everything for it to be a great year.”

As well as Bartomeu, the president of the penya, Jordi Carnasa, and the mayor of Tarragona, José Félix Ballesteros, were also present. La Gran Penya Barcelonista de Tarragona i Provincia is now one of 45 Barcelona penyas to have celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The anecdote of the night came from the presenter. He introduced the Barça chief as Josep Maria Nogués, who is the president of Nastic. Bartomeu took it with a smile and had no problems with the gaffe because Nogués “is a good friend of mine.”
