Barça B may be able to pay their way back into Segunda A

Barcelona B may be able to avoid their relegation to the Segunda B. They are very much dependent on the actions of Elche, who could fall victim to their second enforced relegation within the space of a month. If they were to be demoted, Barça B are the only team who can pay the significant fee in order to take their place in the league above.

Elche have seen themselves condemned to the Segunda A this week, after administration courts ratified the decision of the Administrative Tribunal of Sport. Their debt has been the reason behind the LFP relegating them and maintaining Eibar's place in La Liga for the coming season. They could, however, also descend to the Segunda B due to not paying their footballers.

Elche have until this Friday, the 31st of July, to pay 7.2 million euros to their squad. If they don't, the LFP will leave them without a place in professional football. At this point, Barça can enter the scene. Barça B joined Racing Santander, Recreativo de Huelva and Sabadell in being relegated, but if Elche cannot pay Barça's affiliate can leap back into the Segunda A despite finishing bottom of the league. No other relegated club has the economic power to make such an immediate and large investment.

According to sources close to SPORT, Barcelona very much have this option and it would allow for a much more competitive season for their young players.
