Barcelona will play a friendly in Qatar in December

An agreement with Qatar Airways could see Luis Enrique's side head to Qatar for a game this year

Barcelona will play a friendly in Qatar against Al-Alhi in December. The chosen date, according to the Dubai-based club, is Dec. 13, which falls in between the game against Osasuna at El Sadar and the derby against Espanyol at Camp Nou. However Barça have still not confirmed the fixture. It would be a special occasion for the Qataris given the Catalan side have still not played a game there.

The friendly would be part of the agreement reached with Qatar Airways, which stipulates that Luis Enriqe’s side must play a game in a city of their choosing. Until now Barça have played just one friendly under the agreement, against Paris Saint Germain in Paris in 2012.

Barça held a clinic in 2013 in Palestine and the the Blaugrana considered that as a substitute for the friendly they had committed to playing in the agreement with the Qatari airline, but in fact they failed to fulfil the contract. This season’s renewal of the agreement, though, for another year (until the end of 2017) has seen the company demand that Barça comply with the original agreement and they are seeking a date for the friendly.

As we say, the date could be Dec. 13 and the chosen opponent is the Al-Alhi, a team who are also sponsored by Qatar Airways.
