Barça enquired about Benfica's Jonas Goncalves

Jonas Goncalves is the latest player to be added to Barcelona's summer transfer agenda, according to his brother Tiago.

Tiago gave an interview to Globoesporte in which he revealed details about the interest shown by the Blaugrana for Liga Nos' top goalscorer last season with 32 goals for Benfica.

"Someone on behalf of Barça called me to know about Jonas' situation," he said, "When a club is interested in a player you have to act fast, because negotiations take time to be finalised.

"As there was no further contact [from Barça], I find it difficult to reach a solution. We're flattered, of course, because it's recognition for the spectacular season that Jonas had."

Jonas helped Benfica achieve a second consecutive Liga Nos title and the Portuguese League Cup in the 2015/16 season, finishing fourth behind Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo (first, second and third respectively) in the race for the European Golden Shoe.

"It's important to make clear that Jonas is very happy at Benfica, and knows that the club has always respected his wishes" Tiago concluded, "But if [a transfer is to happen], it would have to be an offer that satisfies both Jonas and Benfica."
