Barcelona defender was a last minute casualty on Tuesday from the squad for Wednesday's Champions League game against Olympiakos at Camp Nou.
The left-back injured a thigh muscle in training at the Ciutat Esportiva and will not be risked against the Greek champions.
Ernesto Valverde, therefore, will be without one of the players who has played the most minutes for Barça this season. In fact, after Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Lionel Messi, Alba has been the most-used player.
France international Lucas Digne is likely to take Alba's place at left-back on Wednesday.
Alba has started 11 of the 12 games this season, only missing the 6-1 win over Eibar, when Digne was handed a start ahead of him.
