Barca consider offering Michael Laudrup the sporting director role

Josep Maria Bartomeu wants to help his election campaign by hiring a sporting director who has a previous connection to Barcelona.

He has sounded out various members of the Dream Team, convinced that the players from that era have the right image, age and professionalism to take on the project and Michael Laudrup has emerged as a candidate.

Currently managing Lekhwiya in Qatar he want to take a step away from the bench and would be ready to accept the job at Barcelona which was previously done by Andoni Zubizarreta.

Bartomeu and Laudrup have spoken but there is nothing in place yet.

Barca have a commission in place which includes Reixach and the Italian Braida to help choose the new man for the role.

They are also in their jobs to take decisions on the immediate future of the first team squad, La Masia, look into future signings and to sort out new contracts.

But their immediate challenge is to find a new sporting director.

It has been made clear by Bartomeu that the new man must have "Barca DNA".

He has had many conversations with many potential employees and while some have now been ruled out for various reasons, Laudrup's name remains firmly on the table.

The Dane is liked for his image, the quality he had as a player and because he has managed at the top level with success.

It is felt he is a good fit to lead the sporting project and, most importantly, he could be ready to say "yes" reasonable soon.

In fact, the information Barca have received is that Laudrup is tiring of being on the bench and would like to take on this new job -- that it's at the Catalan club is an added bonus.

Barca, for the time being, are in no rush, but Laudrup's name is growing.
