Barça confident that Mascherano will stay

Amidst concerns that another key player is set to leave the club, Barça is convinced that Javier Mascherano will remain part of the team next season.

The Blaugrana is aware that it must take steps to calm the Argentinian down, who's currently concentrated on winning the Copa America 2016 with his country.

There are numerous factors that have caused Mascherano to be put in such an awkward position - some generated in the dressing room, others not.

But the club hierarchy are confident they'll sit down with the player to find a solution and a suitable working environment so that he can continue performing at a high level.

Mascherano's value is not only seen on the pitch, he's seen as a figurehead in the management of the players both with regards to Luis Enrique and the directors.

Barça is sure there are ways to achieve an understanding of the current situation and dampen a possible transfer to Serie A champions Juventus this summer.

One of the options contemplated is to provide an improvement and extension to the 32-year-old's contract.

The former Liverpool midfielder's current deal ends in 2018 and, despite his age, the Blaugrana seek a new extension to tie him to the club for the foreseeable future.
