Barça ask Real Madrid if they can sign Angel Di Maria
Barcelona have shown an interest in Angel Di Maria over the last 48 hours. In fact, a representative from the club has called Real Madrid to offer €60 million for the Argentine, but Florentino Perez has rejected even negotiating with the Catalans.
Barça wanted to take advantage of the situation between Di Maria and the club - Carlo Ancelotti confirmed on Thursday the player wants to leave - but it seems impossible. Their move him, though, has further served to muddy the relationship between the 26-year-old and Los Blancos.
Di Maria asked for a salary of €8m per season - at the moment he picks up €3m. Perez has refused to pay that much and the player's agent has been looking for other clubs across Europe.
In football terms, Di Maria perfectly fits into the "Barça model", although with the signings of Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suarez it is difficult to see how he would fit in as a starter at the moment.
Some people suggest Barça's move was purely to further unsettle Di Maria, because it seems incomprehensible that Real Madrid would sell him to their biggest rivals for €60m.
