Barça allow Cillessen to play in Ajax's Champions League qualifier

Barcelona and Ajax have reached an agreement for Jasper Cillessen to play for the Dutch club in the Champions League against Rostov on Wednesday. The transfer of the goalkeeper to the Catalans will then take place on Thursday.

Ajax insisted on the need to include Cillessen as they look to beat their Russian opposition and qualify for the group stages of the Champions League. The first game at the Amsterdam Arena ended in a draw and coach Peter Bosz does't want to be without his first choice goalkeeper for the return leg. Despite Barça’s initial reluctance, they’ve finally agreed to let him feature.

The presence of Cillessen in the game will not affect his involvement in the same competition for Barça this season. Recent rule changes implemented a couple of years ago mean that you can play in the qualifiers for one team and then for another side in the group stages.

The relationship between Barça and Ajax is excellent and it’s been the key to the Catalan club tying down the Dutch stopper. Everything is now waiting on Cillessen’s arrival in Barcelona, which could be on Thursday, for the deal to be completed and the official presentation to take place.
