Barça admit they could renew again with Qatar
Following the agreement to prolong the Qatar Airways deal for one season, FC Barcelona are searching for formulas to find a sponsor for a duration of three to five years, that can satisfy the economic needs of the Catalan club.
Manel Arroyo, the Barça vice-president of Marketing and Communicaton, asserts that one of the options for this new longer term partner from season 2017/18 onwards could be...Qatar!
More than that, the director states that Qatar would be the first option for the future contract. Amazon could be an alternative.
This is what Arroyo says in his interview with 'El Periodico': "This extension (for one season) has been the suggestion of FC Barcelona, not Qatar Airways. It was us who informed them, given what was on the table, which are various open negotiations of mid-to-long term, that we were interested in maintaining our deal for a year longer.
Meanwhile, we continue to explore the market with Qatar as the first option for the contract to come. In that sense, we have renounced more money in the short term to achieve a better deal in the long term.
Because we are not only searching for money, we are looking for the best partner, a brand association that helps us relay the message of FC Barcelona."
