"I feel like the base... or the most important piece of the puzzle, that is what made me stay," he said

The soap opera surrounding Antoine Griezmann's future was one of the most followed this summer. The France forward was close to signing for Barcelona, but finally decided to stay at Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann announced his decision shortly before the World Cup via a documentary called The Decision, which didn't go down well with Barça.

Now with the France team during the international break, he explained his decision to L'Equipe Magazine.

"When you're shown love at home, you don't go elsewhere," he said, before talking about the effort Atletico made to ensure he stayed.

He added: "They did everything possible to make me feel good, including bringing in important players and building a great team."

While he admitted "it's difficult to say no to teams like Barça," Griezmann assured that he feels completely at home at Atletico.

"I feel like the base... or the most important piece of the puzzle, that is what made me stay," he said.
