Argentina's brief statement on Lionel Messi's groin problem

The Argentine Football Association released a brief statement which was hardly even two lines long to explain that Lionel Messi would not take part in the game against Venezeula.

It read: "This morning, Lionel Messi underwent medical and kinesiological treatment for a groin and thigh pain. It is recommended that he continue to rest from activity and he will not play against Venezuela in the eighth game of World Cup qualifying for Russia 2018."

That was the brief and frugal comment for the reasons Messi will be returning to Barcelona and abandoning the Albiceleste camp.

It does not make clear the seriousness of the injury, merely explaining that he is in pain, which could impede his participation in future Barça matches.

Once he returns to Barcelona, the Catalan club's medical team will perform tests on the 29-year-old and begin to work on a recovery program to see how soon he can return to action.
