Angry Valencia fans burn Alcacer shirts...and even a copy of SPORT!

The signing of Paco Alcacer for FC Barcelona has not gone down well within the Valencia fanbase.

There have been extreme reactions amongst the most radical supporters, who consider their striker's departure a betrayal.

In recent hours, there have been acts that have bordered on fanaticism to protest the exit of the player. Some have even burned their Valencia jerseys with Alcacer's name on the back. Another has burned a copy of SPORT, blaming our paper for the forward opting to continue his playing career at the Camp Nou, for the simple fact of wanting to better himself in a sporting sense.

The cause, though not justification, for these acts can be found in the fact that certain sectors of Valencia have not wished to publicly admit the necessity their club had in selling an importnat player to balance the books.

The Alcacer deal could not be more positive for 'Los Che', who will receive 30 million euros. The president Lay Hoon Chan, right-hand person of owner Peter Lim, did not dare to tell the fans that the transfer of Alcacer was beneficial, and necessary, for the club and this has only provoked disappointment and anger amongst the fans.

The player was an idol of theirs and they do not want to listen to the numbers involved.

When Alcacer's transfer became an open secret, social media became filled with maifestations against the deal. A hashtag which translates as "sunflower seeds for Alcacer" was even created (to hint that the player will be on the bench eating the snacks as he won't play ahead of the 'MSN').
