Mascherano published an unforgiving rant on Twitter in note form

The player was furious about allegations made by Dibos which he thought besmirched his name

Javier Macherano didn’t take long to hit back at the criticism launched at him by Carlos Dibos, who was Argentina’s fitness coach between 2006 and 2008. Dibos claimed the Barcelona man was the man who “brought the friends club to the squad, I think he’s one of the players who has finished his cycle here”. Dibos was referring to players being picked because they are friends with other members of the squad, rather than on ability.

Mascherano hit back furiously. He wrote on Twitter:

“It’s a shame for Argentine football that a professional like Mr Dibos, who I worked with in the national team, says I am responsible for things as serious as those he has mentioned.

“I can accept any type of criticism regarding my level of play, but not like this, that he puts these accusations to me.

“I have a calm conscience, never have I intervened in any decision made by a coach.

“The things that I have shared with him and my opinion about his professionalism, I will keep to myself.

“It’s a shame that Argentine football counts on people of this level of humanity.”
