Andres Iniesta injury: Barcelona star damages knee ligament

Early indications are that he will miss three months although further tests will be taken by doctors back in Barcelona

Andres Iniesta suffered a partial tear of his right knee ligament against Valencia on Saturday.

The midfielder was fouled by Enzo Perez and went down in agony, immediately calling for assistance for the bench.

Early indications are that he will miss three months although further tests will be taken when he arrives back in Barcelona.

The club released a statement reading: “The first team player Andrés Iniesta has injured the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee. When he arrives in Barcelona the player will have more tests to find out the exact extent of the injury.”

Iniesta was taken off for Ivan Rakitic. Luis Enrique said: “We saw immediately that the player was injured and there was no yellow card. We’ll see how long he’s out for tomorrow, but yes, it will be a while. It’s a serious injury."
