Andre Gomes was essentially signed on a whim of Luis Enrique's

Barcelona's sporting director Robert Fernandez and Albert Soler, director of professional sports, spoke about the incorporation of Andre Gomes.

"The truth is that we followed him for some time, he's a player Luis Enrique and me have always liked," said Robert, of the midfielder signed for €35million.

"It was not an easy situation because there were other situations in the team, but we had Gomes there and he was able to do it. There were other priorities but it was a good market opportunity."

Soler said that Gomes was the only transfer made this summer that wasn't included in the Blaugrana's forecast plans. They had planned to spend 60m, plus any money raised from sales.

He said: "We've gone 30 over what we said initially, but we also said that if there was an good opportunity [Andre Gomes], we would go for it."
