Barcelona star Lionel Messi has a special clause in his new contract. The precedent set by Neymar, who was signed for 222 million euros by Paris Saint-Germain, has led to a change in tack by Barcelona's board. Messi has signed a new deal to 2021 but it is quite different to the one agreed back in the summer.
His previous clause was 250m euros and it was set to be moved to 300m euros, but Barcelona saw the Neymar situation and decided that was too risky. So they reache a new deal with Messi to raise the clause to 700 million euros, which takes him out of reach for the Sheiks and oil magnates of football.
