Alves sends a message to the Barcelona board about Neymar's renewal

Dani Alves feels responsible for Neymar triumphing at FC Barcelona. The right-back has forged a strong relationship with his Brazilian team-mate.

After acting as the 24-year-old’s host during his early days with the Catalan team, Alves has since come to refer to him as his “little brother”. On Tuesday, in a press conference, he said “I did my bit so that [Neymar] would come here.”

The defender knows perfectly well just how happy Ney is in the city and at the club. He is certain that his compatriot’s priority is to continue making history with the Blaugrana. But he took advantage of the presentation of his link as an ambassador in the fight against Hepatitis C to send a message to the Barça board.

“The club must take responsibility of caring for Neymar sufficiently for him to stay,” Alves said to the journalists.

In recent days, Neymar has made it clear his intention is to stay at the club: “I’m Barça,” he said during the double celebration at Camp Nou on Monday.

However, speculation about his future has continued and created a certain amount of worry. On that, Alves added: “I can’t predict his destiny, but you have to keep in mind his words. He is happy here and I think that’s enough.”
