Aleix Vidal could be involved in a swap deal... with Valencia's Joao Cancelo

Barcelona and Valencia have been in talks about a potential transfer involving two of the clubs' right-backs

Aleix Vidal's future is further away from Barcelona all the time. It is almost certain he will leave the club next summer, but he could yet leave in January. Luis Enrique has given up on the Catalan after his poor showing against Alaves. The Asturian coach hasn't called him up since and is aware he can't go the whole season with just one right-back, Sergi Roberto.

Barça are looking for an alternative. On Sunday Robert Fernandez was at the Mestalla to watch Valencia and Atletico Madrid. His eyes were fixed on Joao Cancelo, the Portuguese full-back who's been playing further forward, ahead of Martin Montoya. Cancelo was and is Robert's preference for the right-back position in the summer, but instead the club signed other players from Valencia: Andre Gomes and Paco Alcacer.

Now, Barcelona, given the situation with Vidal, have re-opened the idea of signing a right-back in January. According to Radio Valencia, Barça and Valencia are looking at a possible deal for Cancelo. And, according to the report, Vidal could be involved in the operation. Valencia would be open to having the versatile player in their squad, as he can play in the same positions as Cancelo.

Valencia paid 15 million euros for Cancelo when he was virtually unknown, it was an important economic effort. Therefore, they won't let him leave for cheap. Vidal could help reduce the cost, though. Talks between the two clubs are fluid given the friendship between Robert Fernandez and Suso Garcia Pitarch, the two sporting directors. Cancelo's name has always been present in talks between the two men.

Vidal will have the last word, though. He's aware his chances of continuing at Barcelona are slim and if he wants to play regularly -- or even at all -- he must leave. He would play at Valencia and may even be able to win back his place in the Spain team.
