Agent of Barça's Ivan Rakitic: "It is time to go..."

Miquel Sors, one of the agents representing Ivan Rakitic, caused some surprise on Friday when he seemed to open the door to an exit for the Croatian midfielder at Barça.

Sors asserted in a tweet that "I think it is time to go...", in a clear reference to the arrival of Andre Gomes to the Camp Nou, which adds to the existing quota of midfielders in the squad.

With the signing of the Portuguese international, there are nine midfielders under the orders of Luis Enrique for the new season.

They are Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Arda Turan, Rafinha, Denis Suarez, Sergi Samper, Andre Gomes, Sergi Roberto and Javier Mascherano.

Though the latter two players can play in defence, it still seems a bloated number for the same area of the pitch.

Rakitic was in the process of beginning renewal talks, though the conversations had not advanced much.

According to the Croat himself on January 10, the Catalan club and the player's agent had met on more than one occasion:

"We are going to negotiate a new contract. Soon there will be news."

The footballer arrived in 2014 from Sevilla, and has been a key ingredient for Luis Enrique over the last two seasons, as he has been a regular starter, though often also the first to be substituted.

Rakitic scored the opening goal in the Champions League final of 2015 against Juventus.
