Adidas complain to USPTO about the design of Barcelona's Nike home shirt

Adidas, Nike and FC Barcelona immersed in a battle regarding Catalan club's stripes

The stripes on Barcelona’s shirt this season have become a legal battle between two of the biggest brands in sport. According to Marketing Deportivo MD, Adidas have filed a complaint against FC Barcelona and Nike.

The information explains that the German company Adidas have gone to the Patent and Trademark Office in the United States (USPTO) to file a trademark infringement complaint.

In the complaint, Adidas argue that the design of this season’s Barça shirt, which features seven vertical stripes, is very similar, too similar, they say, to the characteristics of their designs.

Marketing Deportivo say that the USPTO are studying the arguments put forward. In the case that Adidas are found to have reason, Barcelona and Nike may even be obliged to urgently change the design of this season’s shirt.
