A La Liga season marked by huge refereeing errors - 10 of the worst

La Liga 2016-17 will be memorable for the number of big refereeing errors that were made

The list is immense and has helped shape the season and the standings

La Liga 2016-17 is about to end. Madrid and Barcelona are separated by three points going into the final day, but who knows what the table would look like had these mistakes not been made.

1. The goal not given in Betis-Barça

The worst error of the season. Neither Hernandez Hernandez or his assistants saw how a ball hit by Piccini entered his own net before Mandi kicked it out. Barcelona drew 1-1, but with this goal they might have won.

2. Bruno's Handball

A Messi shot was blocked in the box by Bruno Soriano on the floor, with his hand. He raised his arm to block it and everyone saw it. Apart from Iglesias Villanueva.

3. PIQUE's GOAL RULED OUT IN Barça-Málaga

Barcelona faced Malaga at Camp Nou and it ended 0-0 but it would have been different if Pique's goal had not been unfairly disallowed by De Burgos Bengoetxea. Gomes headed the ball in the area, from a legal position and Pique, who was behind the Portuguese, ended up scoring, but it was ruled out.

4. Penalty on Sergi Roberto given outside the box

In the clash against Malaga that ended with a 2-0 win for the hosts, Gil Manzano gave Sergi Roberto a free kick when he was clearly fouled inside the area, with the score at 1-0.

5. Ramos offside in Málaga-Real Madrid

Madrid won 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu but Ramos was offside before headng home Kroos's ball to make the score 2-0.

6. Keylor Navas not sent off in Real Madrid-Betis

In the 21st minute of the game Keylor Navas fouled Brasanac clearly, when through on goal. Somehow Mateu Lahoz did not send off the goalkeeper.

7. Ramos NOT SENT OFF IN Real Madrid-Deportivo

Sergio Ramos scored the winner in Madrid's 3-2 win over Deportivo but should have not been on the pitch after a violent attack on Sidnei in front of the referee. He was booked but it should have been red.

8. The decisive corner in Deportivo-Barça

Deportivo wre involved in another key moment of the season, this time benefitting from the referee against Barcelona. Arribas' shot in the 73rd minute hit the post and went out but the referee thought Ter Stegen had touched it (erroneously). They scored from the corner via Bergantinos and won 2-1.

9. OFFSIDE AGAINST Juanmi

It's true that Barcelona have suffered a lot from referees this season but it's fair to recognis that sometimes they have benefitted. The clearest example was the goal ruled out for Juanmi of Real Sociedad in the game that ended 1-1. He was not offside and the goal would have put la Real ahead.

10. PENALTY ON Iago Aspas THAT ENDED IN A RED CARD FOR THE PLAYER

Beyond influencing the result of the game, as Los Blancos were already 2-0 up, this was the straw that broke the camel's back. On Wednesday Aspas was fouled by Sergio Ramos. Referee Martinez Munuera didn't just signal a penalty but also a second yellow card for the Galician for diving. Surreal.
