The president and the player will both travel to the Champions League draw

Messi has still not signed the contract renewal he agreed with the club in June

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu will share a flight to Monaco on Thursday with Lionel Messi as both form part of the club's official expedition that will travel to the Champions League draw.

The Blaugrana will send a large group of representatives, with the group headed by the president. Also travelling are: Óscar Grau (CEO), Albert Soler (director of professional sports), Pep Segura (general manager), Raúl Sanllehí (director of football), and Amador Bernabéu and David Bellver (who work on the club's international relations).

Leo Messi, meanwhile, will travel as a candidate for the award which will be handed out for the best player in Europe last season. The other two players in the running are Cristiano Ronaldo and Gianluigi Buffon. Lieke Martens, who plays for the club's women team, is nominated for the female equivalent.

Messi and Bartomeu will have the chance to exchange impressions on the tip on various aspects of the club, among them, and fundamentally, the player's contract renewal, which was agreed in June but has still not been signed.

It will be an especially interesting meeting due to the gap which has widened between the players and the board in the last few days.
