Messi was once again Argentina's best player
Leo Messi, Argentina’s captain, received the support of the crowd at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires despite Argentina's frustrating draw against Venezuela, in contrast to previous occasions.
As Messi was walking off the pitch, head down, at the end of the game, the stadium began to chant his name for several minutes. It was a recognition of Messi’s commitment to his national team and the fact that, once again, he had been their best player.
The fans know that they need Messi more than ever to get out of the difficulties they are in with qualification. Not making the World Cup would be a major embarrassment for Argentina and a disappointment for Messi as he would miss out on a chance to show once again why he is the best player of all time.
